Importance Of Probiotics
Probiotics are helpful bacteria that are found in some foods and supplements, and they promote the growth of naturally occurring organisms in the digestive system.
This strengthens the body’s immune response, and improves digestive transit time. A healthy digestive tract translates into better overall health.
There are a lot of things to do in order to keep the digestive system healthy. When it isn’t cared for, waste isn’t eliminated correctly, nutrients can’t be absorbed and used efficiently, and overall function will decline. What we eat and when we eat it, plus all the stress we are under, and our life habits can affect our health more than we realize.
Usually, we don’t think about improving our health until something goes wrong- like yeast infections, diarrhea, tiredness, allergies, and bad breath. The body’s reduced immune response can result in more colds and flu, too.
For these reasons, probiotics should be a part of your daily health regimen.
Choose foods that are high in fiber, and low in sugar and fat. Heavily processed foods can inhibit the digestive system’s function, and lead to waste build up. Try to limit your alcohol and caffeine consumption, and don’t smoke. Eliminating these from your life goes a long way! You should also get at least eight hours of sleep per night.
We all react differently to stress, and those who have a high-stress life seem to have more immune disorders and get sick more often. Make a conscious effort to manage stress more effectively. Regular exercise is a great way to get stress under control.
You don’t have to be a bodybuilder, but consistent workouts will improve your overall health and bolster your immune system.
Exercise will also promote weight loss and the elimination of toxins through perspiration, which will also improve immune response and help with digestion (as if we needed more good reasons to exercise!)
In addition to the tips above, you should include some sort of probiotic in your diet. Foods like yogurt contain a wide variety of probiotic bacteria, and supplements like acidophilus are also beneficial.
Look for foods containing bifidobacterium animalis, B. longum, and B. infantis, and the Lactobacillus family of bacteria. These are the most beneficial bacteria on Earth, and while they aren’t a “magic bullet”, they are a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.
